UPDATED : (OR DOES HE?) JJ announces that Rey’s parents DID NOT APPEAR IN THE FORCE AWAKENS!
J.J. Abrams reveals Rey’s parents aren’t in The Force Awakens @slashfilm pic.twitter.com/O2j8gFNqtF

As fun as it sounds to see comedian Chris Rock interview JJ Abrams, it was a young audience member of at the Tribeca Film Festival event that pulled no punches asking the question that must be asked “WHO IS REY’S PARENTS?” Whist JJ didn’t hint at who they were he dropped a huge hint at who they are not, stating that they didn’t appear in The Force Awakens. Taken at his word this would mean the Rey isn’t a Solo or a Skywalker! Personally I was hoping for Skywalker or no one. The hard part of any Rey theory is working out why she was left on Jakku at such a young age making a Skywalker or Solo connection hard to fathom unless they thought she had died and was the victim of a kidnapping of some type. UPDATE : The always reliable Anthony Breznican of EW.com gets a clarification from Lucasfilm.
JJ Abrams clarifies comments on Rey’s parents in #StarWars: The Force Awakens: https://t.co/MTsLpdL7ut pic.twitter.com/u0CSFkXDKA — Anthony Breznican (@Breznican) April 16, 2016
Hmmm. What does all this mean? Did JJ let something slip and is doing a bit of backtracking or has the impromptu reply been misinterpreted?.
